Panama-Italy extradition treaty

ITALY has joined a growing list of counties signing extradition treaties with Panama, and reducing the number of bolt holes for fleeing criminals or suspects

The Cabinet Council on Tuesday, March 2, endorsed a draft law approving an extradition treaty between Panama and Italy.

That proposal will now be sent to the National Assembly for approval, along with treaties with the Dominican Republic and Cuba.

The treaty is only enforceable if the alleged offenses are considered to be crimes in both countries with a minimum sentence of one year.

The pending treaty with the Dominican Republic also concerns extradition, while the pending treaty with Cuba concerns mutual assistance in criminal matters.
