Remembering hit and run cyclist victim

SCORES  of cyclists turned out on Sunday October 2  to  celebrate the life of  international competitor Monica Licona Lepida,  killed by a hit and run driver in Panama a year ago.

In Panama City the event included a 5 km walk and a 20 km bike ride on the Cinta Costera

Monica’s sister Lianna and other relatives, spearheaded the activity::  “A meeting for life”, to raise awareness of drivers, pedestrians  and cyclists using public roads.

It started in front of the Miramar Intercontinental  where Monica was killed and where a white painted bicycle stand as a memorial.

Her sister Lianna and other relatives led the activity,  the first arranged by  the  Fundacion Monica Licona, established on July 13 this year.

Monica’s death occurred on Avenida Balboa, soon after 6 am  while riding with her sister and a group of friends on their way to a training session.

A similar memorial celebration was held in David and Boquete, Chiriqui, with 20k and 40k bike rides for novice and experienced cyclists.
