Drugs delivery averts Social Security crisis.

STREET DEMONSTRATIONS  by insured patients of the Social Security Fund (CSS), and a wakeup call from President Juan Carlos Varela have resulted in the delivery of long awaited drugs and medical supplies.

Supplies arrived in  in the metropolitan area on Friday and will be distributed across the country on Monday October 17.

The heavily criticized director of the CSS, Estivenson Giron said that the supply meets the combined efforts of officials from various departments of the entity to meet the needs of patients.

He said  indicated that the delivery  of supplies of about 80 drug items have been taken to the  Arnulfo Arias Madrid Hospital, and on  October 17 the province of Chiriqui will receive supplies.

Giron said that among the supplies are  the special medicines used by patients who received a transplant

In this particular case, said that these drugs have been in the hospital pharmacy  since last Thursday that is, one day after those patients closed the Simon Bolivar Avenue to demand the provision of medicines that prevent the body from rejecting the organ received.

Giron said that 200 contracts are in the hands of suppliers, which will help to improve the level of supply in warehouses and pharmacies of the institution.

In his view, the ideal is that supply levels exceed 95%, which is not always possible because the organization is dependent on the needs of others

In addition, there are medicines for whichsuppliers do not want to bid.

“We have had problems, but we are  working  to resolve this issue and make sure that it  does not happen again,” he said.

Meanwhile, the vice president of the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation, Enma Pinzon confirmed that medicines are reaching health facilities of the CSS.

However, he said that the provision is due to the pressure made by patients, although in the case of those suffering from arthritis have not received any of the medicines they need.

Pinzon rsaid that  the  CSS has been asked for  information on the status of these drugs, but so far none has been provided.

He added he expects the arrival of drugs  is in sufficient quantities and not a palliative to enablr them to report. Julio Osorio, the leader of the National Negotiating Medical Commission, (Comenenal)  said that the arrival of medicines responds to pressure and to Varela’s call.

Warnings
He added that for six weeks, Comenenal  had warned that there would be a crisis.

He said that in a mathematically -based projection if nothing was done for the second week of October the system unravels.

The medical official said that because of these complaints that the meeting between authorities of the CSS was scheduled, the Ministry of Health and the Presidency to decide to make direct purchases of medicines.

Osorio, that it will meet the needs of policyholders until the end of the year, although CSS  authorities say that medicines will last for six months.

He said  that he  disagrees with direct purchases, but it was a solution to avoid the possible deaths of patients.
