Assembly dithers on choice of electoral judge

WHILE the National Assembly was due to of the year on Monday, Oct 31 , the voting process for the choice of the replacement of Tribunal Electoral (TE) Judge Erasmo Pinilla is was atill iin the air.

On Sunday PRD Deputy Pedro Miguel González said that he would propose that the topic be handled in an extraordinary session.

“The decision is momentous, and I know that we have to make it before the end of this year. I think that trying to do something in one day could be too abrupt, especially because the deputies from the country’s largest party have not had time to analyze the issue,” he said.

PRD Deputy Benicio Robinson agreed that the vote should be dealt with in an extraordinary session.

He said THE PRD right now seems to support Raúl Rodríguez for the position.

But Panameñista Deputy Adolfo Valderrama said on his Twitter account that “it is a duty and a right” of the Assembly to choose the judge.

“We have been evaluating potential candidates for 20 days, I do not see why we should wait any longer,” he wrote.

Credentials Committee Chairman Jorge Alberto Rosas forwarded the report of the interviews of the candidates to the legislative plenary Thursday. The deputy also said he does not see a reason to delay the process
