Social security dialogue planned

PANAMA’S  growing economy  has kept the country’s Social Security prpgram (CSS) from running a deficit, but a a national dialogue is planned on the future of the pension program.

The announcement came on Friday Dec.1  from  presidential advisor Temistocles Díaz.

He said the dialogue  would be planned after the executive  has reviewed the program’s updated financial report, which will be finished soon.

He said there is not an urgency to the discussion as

the growing economy has kept the program from running a deficit.

“We have enough time to have a national dialogue,”  As a country it is important to achieve a consensus on this issue.”

The updated figures are expected to be compiled by the end of the year or early next year.

“We can not make changes to something when we don’t know the magnitude of the problem, but the positive part is that we are not facing a deficit,” said Diaz.
