Virus closes Panamaa’s largest mine

 As the number of cases of  COVID-19 surged to 2.100. with  55 deaths, Panama’s health Minister Rosario Turner announced on Monday, April 7 the temporary closing of the Minera Panama mine which was protected by a  “sanitary fence” and had has been exempted from the nationwide shutdown of businesses. There were 10 reported cases of the virus among miners and one death.

Most cases in the country  (1,640) are recorded in people between 20 and 59 years, while the highest number of deaths (39) is concentrated in those over 60 years.
