OPINION: Manipulating the justice system

All Panamanians are interested, and trust, that the rights of citizen Ricardo Martinelli Berrocal are respected. Respect not only  for  him, but also the thousands of prisoners deprived of their liberty awaiting sentencing or serving sentences in our prisons, and all those patients who go to the Santo Tomas Hospital, the Social Security Fund or any  other of  the state health centers with the expectation that they will provide timely quality care,  and with humanity.

However, we will be alert to the possibility that the health condition of the former president – the subject of comments and reactions that go from the subliminal to the ridiculous, and from pious to sarcastic used by his  lawyers as a tool of blackmail and manipulation, to achieve privileged conditions for the defendant or to delay the advance of the judicial process.

It would not be the first time this happens; in fact, there was a former collaborator who taught us that, if you have enough power and money, you can get impunity or, at least, hospital instead of jail…LA PRENSA, June 13
