Facebook cuts Trump campaign fake comments
AFP, Washington Facebook has dismantled a fake voter manipulation campaign in favor of President Donald Trump 26 days before the US presidential elections.
It was organized by a marketing consultancy, Rally Forge, now banned from the platform.
The operation consisted mainly of posting comments on different topics to criticize the Democratic candidate Joe Biden and make an apology for Trump, to “give the impression of broad support for his opinions,” the Californian group explained in a statement on Thursday.
“Deceptive operations like these pose particularly complex challenges because they blur the line between public debate and manipulation,” Facebook noted.
This American marketing firm works for Turning Point USA, an organization favorable to the president, who is seeking reelection and lags behind in the polls.
The Rally Forge campaign, originally spotted by The Washington Post, consisted of 200 accounts and 55 Facebook pages, as well as 76 Instagram accounts. They were all eliminated
