Martinelli era fall guy stays jailed
Rafael Guardia Jaén, former director of the defunct National Aid Program (PAN), and one of the few corrupt high rollers in the Martinelli administration to be jailed will continue to serve his sentence in the El Renacer prison, after a Superior Court of Appeals, confirmed the decision of a Compliance Judge to deny a request for house arrest.
The former director of PAN, during the administration of former President Ricardo Martinelli, was sentenced to 60 months in prison, in December 2017, for crimes against the public administration.
His link man was Martinelli’s secretary. Adolfo “Chicci” de Obarrio, who had a monthly salary of $5,000 and fled Panama with his wife after a wedding reported to have cost over $500,00 as prosecutors were closing in.
An Interpol red alert is still in place.
