Former Martinelli minister facing unjustified enrichment trial

 

The Public Ministry requested a summons to trial against the former Minister of Labor and Labor Development Alma Cortés for alleged unjustified enrichment during the administration of former President Ricardo Martinelli.

Cortés is joined by another four other people, and two former officials of the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development (Mitradel).

In a Preliminary Hearing, the Anti-Corruption Discharge Prosecutor’s Office, represented by Edwin Juárez, requested before the Judge First Liquidator of Criminal Cases, Agueda Rentería, the summons to trial.

Rentería accepted the term to decide on the opening of the trial.

According to investigations, the unjustified enrichment of $2,587,929.28, was related to the management of the former official who held the position of Minister of the Mitradel between 2009 and 2014.

In addition to officials, a private lawyer and two foundations with their directors who maintained contracts awarded to train people within the ‘My First Job’ Program, for the year 2011, where there were irregularities, appear in the summons to trial.
