Former Colón mayor jailed five years for embezzlement
The former mayor of Colón, Dámaso García, has been sentenced to five years in jail for embezzlement, which occurred between January 2009 and June 2010 reported the Public Ministry (MP) on Friday.
The Second Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office had the audit of the Comptroller General during the administration of the former Mayor (2009 – 2014) and carried out a series of investigations and practices of evidence and inquiry of more than 10 people who were listed in the file.
That audit report indicated that the people who were appointed by García did not fulfill their labor mission and received their respective salaries; In addition, the report showed the loss of rolling equipment that was not located, for which the figure of embezzlement was being considered.
