First Christmas trees arrive from Canada
The first shipment of 2,353 units of Christmas trees, from Canada, left the Port of Manzanillo in the province of Colón, inspected by the Agricultural Quarantine unit of the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA).
The trees go to the national market and have gone through an inspection process, complying with all the regulations established by MIDA for the protection of heritage, said Kirian Cerceño, head of Agricultural Quarantine.
He stated that these products are free of insects, weeds, and soil and have met the requirements established by the National Directorate of Plant Health.
He stressed that as soon as the containers arrive in the national territory, the inspection process begins based on a sampling that is carried out.
Some 47 containers full of saplings from Canada and the United States are expected to arrive next week.
