Spotify ends contract with Sussexes after one season
The Spotify internet platform has terminated the contract it had with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to produce podcasts, as confirmed by the company and the couple in a joint statement.
The note specifies that both parties have “mutually agreed to separate their paths”, with which Spotify will not renew for a second season, as expected, Meghan’s Archetypes, which has been broadcasting twelve chapters since August 2022.
When that contract was announced, at the end of 2020, it had an estimated value of about $25 million according to the media, and was one of the most important commercial agreements forged by the couple after having abandoned their functions as members of the British royal family and moved to the United States.
When it was announced three years ago, Prince Harry said it would bring “different perspectives and voices that may not have been heard before.”
In the first series, Meghan spoke to well-known figures like her friend, tennis player Serena Williams, and singer Mariah Carey about stereotypes against women.
The Duchess then indicated that she loved to “get involved” in the process of “sitting up late at night in bed, working on the text and creativity.”
Meghan further revealed that she “loved to delve into meaningful conversations” with her “diverse and inspiring guests, laughing and learning” with them.A spokeswoman for Archewell – the organization of the dukes – told the Wall Street Journal that Meghan continues to develop content for her audience on another platform.
North American media suggests that the couple has not met the productivity expectations required by Spotify.
