The Beginning of Rainy Season
According to climatological analyses, current conditions indicate that we are now in the transition period from the dry to the rainy season. A weakening of the Northeast Trade winds (NE) and the entry of winds from the South were observed in February of 2024. During this transition period, isolated short-lived showers began as well as several consecutive days without rain. In the coming weeks a cold thrust, located over the Caribbean Sea basin will maintain a cold mass in the Central American region, expected to approach the Panamanian latitudes, which will interact with local conditions.
This will increase the probability of significant rain events in specific locations on the Panamanian isthmus during the last ten days of March and early April 2024. Hopefully the Panama Canal can receive some of that rain. These events will mark the beginning of the rainy season in the west of the province of Chiriquí where the rain is needed for agriculture as Chiriqui is the bread basket of Panama.
