HEALTH ALERT :False autism cure claims in Panama

CLAIMS of a cure for autism circulating on Panama social networks are “misleading advertising” says the Ministry of Health (MOH).

The Director General of Health, Itza Barahona de Mosca, said on Friday Oct.23 that the only treatments certified in the country are those supported by the Ministry  and the Ann Sullivan Center Panama (CASPAN).

‘The Technical Council does the  investigation, and initiates  the required measures, said Barahona de Mosca, and alerted the population to be cautious about the  false disclosures.

She said there is no scientifically proven at is not scientifically proven autism cure. “’There are only treatments”

Melina Mancuso, CEO of CASPAN said that the clinics are using social networks and television media to promote fake cure for autism have been identified, however, but  said she could not reveal names.

“Many times we look for a cure, but the reality is that only treatment  exists for autism  and there are people who are taking advantage of an avalanche of information to create false hopes’ she said.

According to Mancuso, 110 autistic children a year are served by the CASPAN. The  disorder is detected in infants between the first months and three years old

Approved treatments
Autistic patients can be treated with behavioral therapies early stimulation of communication, language and drug treatments which promote attention and decrease hyperactivity.
