A Request for Asylum in Panama.  A 21-Year-Old Colombian Man Surrenders to Authorities in the Darién.

A 21-year-old Colombian citizen surrendered to the National Border Service (Senafront) in the Darién province and requested asylum in Panama, claiming his life was in danger. According to information provided by Senafront, the young man was not carrying any personal identification documents when he turned himself in to the authorities.  The institution indicated that the citizen appears to be linked to a criminal group in Colombia, although this condition must be verified by the competent authorities. 

Colombian Man Sought Refuge in Panama.

The citizen told the authorities that he decided to seek refuge in the country because he believes his life is in danger.  In response to this request, Senafront activated the corresponding protocols to follow up on the case and the request submitted by the Colombian citizen. The information was confirmed by the Deputy Director General of Senafront, Héctor De Sedas.  The authorities will have to determine the circumstances of the case and verify both the identity of the citizen and the information related to his alleged links with criminal organizations.  Because it is a request for asylum, the process will continue in accordance with the procedures established by the Panamanian authorities.
