Mother of Young Man from Colón who Died in the War asks to Repatriate his Remains from Russia
The mother of the young Abimael Becerra requested the repatriation of her son’s remains from the Panamanian Foreign Ministry.
Abimael Becerra, a young man from Colón who traveled to Russia last June to participate in the war, died in combat, his family confirmed. His mother explained that his decision to enlist stemmed from the lack of opportunities to join Panama’s security forces.

Adelaida Ortiz, the young man’s mother, recounted that she was notified of her son’s death shortly after he told her he was heading to the front lines. He was to remain there for two months. According to Ortiz, Abimael had previously warned her that if he did not contact her again, it meant he had died.

Given this situation, Mrs. Ortiz requested the Panamanian Foreign Ministry to repatriate her son’s remains so that he could be given a Christian burial in the country.
