A Goal from Enzo Fernández in the 90+2 Minute, Stages an Epic Comeback for Argentina

Argentina rallied in the final stretch of the match after being down 2-0, with goals from Cristian Romero and Lionel Messi, before Fernández’s decisive goal. Lionel Messi scored his eighth goal of the tournament.

Argentina staged a memorable comeback in the final minutes and defeated Egypt 3-2 with a last-gasp goal from Enzo Fernández in the 90+2 minute, unleashing euphoria among the Albiceleste fans in a dramatic end to the match.  Just when the game seemed to be slipping away, Lionel Messi pictured below, appeared. The Argentine captain scored in the 84th minute to tie the game 2-2 against Egypt, sparking a comeback from the Albiceleste in the final stretch of the match.  The comeback was started by Cristian Romero, who appeared in the area in the 79th minute to score the consolation goal and make it 2-1 against Egypt, at a key moment in the second half.  The Africans had a comfortable lead when Mostafa Ziko (67′) scored his team’s second goal. The striker perfectly read the play inside the area to anticipate his marker and finish with precision.

This put Argentina against the wall, after Lionel Messi missed from the penalty spot (21 minutes) following a controversial refereeing decision, after a foul was called inside the area on Nicolás Tagliafico.  The Argentine captain’s shot lacked the expected precision, allowing Egypt to maintain their 1-0 lead and retain emotional control of the match. The play marked a pivotal moment, as an equalizer would have completely altered the dynamics of the game.  Egypt took the lead and surprised Argentina with an early goal. Defender Yasser Ibrahim appeared in the box to head home the opening goal in the 15th minute, following a set piece that caught the opposing defense out of position.  The goal gave the African team confidence, and they began to control the tempo of the game, displaying defensive organization and exploiting the spaces to try and extend their lead. Argentina, for their part, were forced to react quickly, pushing forward in search of an equalizer.
