Mitradel Detects Foreigners Without Permits and Multiple Labor Violations in Panama

Authorities conducted 218 inspections across the country and found 10 foreigners working without the permits required by law. The inspections allowed for verification of compliance with labor legislation, safety in workplaces, and hiring in accordance with the law.

A total of 218 inspections were carried out by the Ministry of Labor and Workforce Development (Mitradel) during the last week in different parts of the country, as part of the operations aimed at verifying compliance with labor standards, safety conditions in workplaces and hiring in accordance with current legislation.  The actions were developed under the direction of Minister Jackeline Muñoz and are part of the National Government’s strategy to protect workers’ rights, promote safe working environments and ensure compliance with the law.  Of the total inspections, 111 were related to labor, 43 to occupational safety, 37 to child labor, and 27 to labor migration.

As a result of these inspections, inspectors found 10 foreign nationals working without the required permits, and seven cases were referred to the Judicial Secretariat to initiate administrative proceedings and apply the established sanctions.  The operations took place in the provinces of Panama, Panama West, Los Santos and Darien, where violations were identified related to the lack of personal protective equipment, deficiencies in hygiene and safety conditions, absence of employment contracts, non-compliance with labor obligations and irregular hiring of migrant workers.  Mitradel urged employers to keep the required documentation up to date, including the notice of operation, employment contracts and payrolls, while reiterating that it will continue to carry out inspections throughout the country to guarantee decent, safe working conditions that comply with current regulations.
