More Than 1500 Pounds of Contaminated Rice Seized by Acodeco in Panama
Rice infested with weevils seized in the photo below. The discovery was made in Bocas del Toro, in premises in El Empalme, following citizen complaints, revealing serious health risks and violations against the consumer.
A total of 1,517.24 pounds of rice contaminated with weevils, amid 178 commercial irregularities, was the result of a surprise operation in the community of El Empalme, province of Bocas del Toro, reported the Consumer Protection and Competition Defense Authority (Acodeco).

The inspections, prompted by complaints from local residents, were carried out as part of an institutional fair aimed at monitoring compliance with consumer protection regulations. ACODECO in Panama is the equivalent of the Better Business Bureau.
