The Ministry of Public Security led an operation at the La Joyita Penitentiary Center, where pavilions 5, 6 and 7 were raided, as well as Maximum Security areas 12, 13 and 14. During the operation, two firearms, more than 150 cell phones, chargers, Starlink antennas and other prohibited items were seized. In addition, suppliers, ammunition, and sharp objects were seized, which posed a risk to the safety of the incarcerated population and prison staff.

The operation involved 2,494 units from the country’s security forces, including 1,754 members of the National Police, 385 from the National Border Service (SENAFRONT) and 355 from the National Aeronaval Service (SENAN), in a coordinated action to reinforce order and security within the penitentiary. These actions are part of the Ministry of Public Security’s ongoing strategies to prevent the entry of weapons, illicit devices, and other items that could affect security and coexistence within the country’s penitentiary centers.
