Panamanian Ships Detained in Hormuz and Detentions by China Taken to the UN by Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Hoyos
Panama advocated this Monday at the United Nations Security Council for guarantees of safety and free transit in global maritime navigation, amid strong geopolitical tensions due to the blockades in the Strait of Hormuz, which are affecting world trade and putting the safety of sailors, crew members and vessels at risk.
“The disruption of critical shipping lanes has immediate impacts on international trade and global energy security,” Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Hoyos said regarding the navigation problems in the Strait of Hormuz. Speaking on behalf of Panama, he deplored the disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and also warned about the increase in detentions of Panamanian-flagged vessels, alluding to the case of China.
