Structural Testing by the Ministry of Public Works Closes the Bridge of the Americas this Weekend

The closure of the Bridge of the Americas will begin at 10:00 pm this Saturday. Users are advised to use the Centennial Bridge as an alternate route.

The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) announced that the Bridge of the Americas will be completely closed this Saturday, April 25, from 10:00 pm until 2:00 am on Sunday, April 26. This measure is in response to the final phase of structural load testing.  The work will allow the evaluation of the road’s behavior through the controlled application of weight, in order to collect technical data that guarantee the safety of vehicular traffic.  Currently, MOP personnel are moving forward with the installation of 24 precision sensors (extensometers) on the east side of the structure to measure its response to different load conditions.  Users are advised to use the Centennial Bridge as an alternate route and strictly follow the signs, as well as the instructions of the Traffic Operations Directorate present in the area.
