The Panamanian Woman Who is Competing in the Miss Universe 2026 Crown: A 30 Year Old Mother and Actress
The race for the Miss Universe Panama 2026 crown is heating up, and it comes with a story. The Miss Panama Organization has already revealed three contestants, but it is the most recent one who is stealing the show. This is Shirley Anais Castillo Aparicio, representative of the regional Miss Universe Riviera del Canal band, a 30-year-old woman who stands out not only for her poise and experience, but also because she is a mother of two, becoming the second Panamanian in this new era to bet on the crown while being a mother.

Before her, the organization announced Isabella Kristina Núñez Cedeño (20), who represents Las Tablas, and Isabela Lourdes Sánchez Baule (21), from Herrera, two young women who are also making a strong showing in this edition. But Shirley comes with a different story. Standing at 1.71 meters tall and with a career that includes roles in national film productions such as ‘Señales’, ‘Sucedió en enero’ and ‘La Residencia’, the candidate combines art, discipline and a family life that drives her to strive for more. Her selection is no coincidence. From the Canal Riviera, an area that symbolizes the country’s global connection, Shirley represents a modern woman who balances dreams, motherhood, and ambition, reflecting the evolution of Panamanian women in beauty pageants.

It is worth remembering that in 2024, journalist and lawyer Daniela Jiménez pictured above, also set a precedent as a mother within the contest, paving the way for stories like Shirley’s to gain strength today. The Miss Universe pageant has evolved with the times. Since 2024, the maximum age limit—previously 28—has been eliminated, and since 2023, married, divorced, pregnant, or mother-to-be women have officially been eligible to participate. Today, the only requirement is being over 18, marking a new, more inclusive era that celebrates diversity and the different stages of a woman’s life.
