$33.5 Million in Loans in 2025 were Granted to Producers in Panama from BDA

The BDA disbursed $33.5 million in 2025 to support producers in Panama. Report reveals progress toward the Agricultural Development Institute.

The Agricultural Development Bank (BDA) disbursed $33.5 million in loans during 2025, benefiting producers throughout the country as part of its strategy to strengthen food security.  The information was presented during the presentation of the institutional report to the Agricultural Affairs Committee of the National Assembly of Panama, in compliance with current regulations. 

Financing for Rural Producers by BDA

The report, presented by General Manager Francisco Mejía, details that the loans impacted producers in 742 communities, mainly in rural areas, covering more than 50 items in the agricultural sector.

The Entity’s Focus was on:

  • Micro and small producers
  • Strengthening national production
  • Boosting food security

Savings and institutional restructuring

The report highlights optimization measures that resulted in annual savings of $4.8 million, through:

  • Reduction of payroll expenses
  • Lower fuel consumption
  • Vehicle disposal
  • Branch reorganization

These actions are part of the modernization process promoted under the administration of President José Raúl Mulino.

Transformation Towards IFA is Progressing

During the presentation, details were also given on the progress of the creation of the Agricultural Development Institute (IFA), a new entity that would replace the BDA as part of the State’s modernization plan.

Key actions include:

  • Reactivation of the Board of Directors
  • Creation of a working group for the bill
  • Formation of an inter-institutional technical committee in March 2026
