Business Owners are Asking for Order in Road Closures as the Old Town Experiences a Commercial Boom During Holy Week

Parishioners and tourists enjoy the devotion of Holy Week in the Old Town as pictured below: Hotels report high occupancy and businesses generate increased sales. More than 312,000 visitors are expected.

Holy Week is once again positioning itself as one of the times of greatest tourist activity in the country, with the Old Town as one of the main centers of religious activity and economic impact.  The administrator of the Panama Tourism Authority, Gloria De León, highlighted the dynamism that this season generates both in the city and in the interior of the country.

Bethany: Discover an Alternative Tour of the Seven Churches

The Church of Santa Marta pictured above, can be visited this Holy Thursday in Betania. Every year, during Holy Week, thousands of parishioners visit churches as a sign of prayer and reflection on Holy Thursday, in a Catholic tradition known as the visit to the seven churches.  The place that receives the most parishioners during Holy Week is the Old Town of Panama City, thanks to the proximity between its churches and the richness of each procession and expression of faith.
