The Discipline Behind the 2027 Calle Abajo Queen: María Paula Acedo Pérez
María Paula Acedo Pérez fulfills her dream of becoming queen of the country’s most popular carnival and revealed details of her comprehensive preparation, focused on every aspect necessary to shine as queen of Calle Abajo de Las Tablas 2027.
In Las Tablas, where carnival is celebrated with intensity and pride, being queen is not just about smiling and blowing kisses. It’s a mission that demands character, discipline, and constant preparation, and María Paula Acedo Pérez, queen of Calle Abajo 2027, understands this very well. The queen revealed that behind the crown is a well-prepared and focused woman. A graduate in Nutrition and Dietetics, and currently pursuing a master’s degree in Marketing, María Paula demonstrates that a reign is also built on academic training and personal organization. “My life has completely changed,” she confessed, referring to the shift in her routine since she made the commitment.

New responsibilities, multiple activities and a demanding schedule are now part of her daily life, which has led her to rethink her lifestyle to meet every commitment. But beyond the personal challenge, there’s a factor that carries immense pride: the history of her ‘tuna’ (a traditional Spanish student musical group). Representing Calle Abajo de Las Tablas is no ordinary title. “It’s a dream that has grown over the years and today it’s a reality,” she expressed, making it clear that this moment also holds profound emotional significance. Aware of the magnitude of the challenge, the queen affirms that her greatest challenge will be achieving a balance between her many responsibilities.

“My biggest challenge will be finding a balance to fulfill everything that being queen entails,” she stated. To be up to the task, María Paula has already begun a comprehensive preparation that includes classes in public speaking, diction, protocol, physical training and aesthetic advice. This increasingly demanding process reflects the evolving role of the queens, who today are also brand ambassadors, public figures, and influencers both within and outside of the carnival. Behind her is a solid team. Her family, especially her mother, and the various committees of the ‘tuna’ (a traditional Spanish student music group) are part of her support system, guiding her every step of the way towards her big year.

Furthermore, her story is deeply intertwined with the roots of Tablas. She comes from a traditional family in the Punta Fogón area, with historical ties to the carnival, which reinforces her connection to the essence of this celebration. As part of the pre-celebration activities, the queen extended an invitation to the public for one of the most anticipated events: ‘The Great Massacre of Triumph’ at El Choclo Garden in Las Tablas on Holy Saturday. The event, which will begin at 12:00 pm, will feature performances by Alejandro Torres and ‘Las Estrellas del Ritmo’, along with the renowned murga group El Perla Negra as pictured below.
