On the night of Saturday, March 28, the National Major League Baseball Championship game between Los Santos and Veraguas at the Roberto “Flaco Bala” Hernández stadium ended in a violent brawl that forced the game to be suspended and left several injured.  The National Police reported that a citizen was apprehended for assaulting another with a baseball bat during the fight.  The institution clarified that the Panamanian Baseball Federation (Fedebeis) did not request security for this sporting event and reiterated that any act of violence will be dealt with according to the law.  He also called on citizens to maintain peaceful conduct in stadiums.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) in Los Santos deployed two ambulances to transfer the injured to a private clinic.  According to the official report, priority was given to a patient with a traumatic brain injury and a guarded prognosis, resulting from a direct assault on the head with a blunt object.  Another patient presented with trauma to the right hand and was stabilized before being transferred. Both received specialized care as part of the Ministry of Health’s immediate response.  The game, in which Veraguas had a 5-0 lead in the fourth inning, was suspended while Fedebeis announced the opening of an investigation to determine responsibilities and evaluate sanctions.  The incident has raised concerns about the lack of coordination in security matters and the impact on the image of national baseball.
