Panama President José Raúl Mulino Receives the President of Germany at the Palacio de las Garzas

President Mulino met with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier with the aim of strengthening the historical relationship between the two nations.

The President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, was received this Monday, March 16, at the Palacio de las Garzas by the Panamanian President, José Raúl Mulino, as part of an official visit to the country.  The Presidency of the Republic highlighted that this meeting “strengthens the historical relationship between both countries and opens a space for dialogue to promote cooperation, development and new opportunities for the benefit of our nations.” 

German President Reaffirms Support for the Neutrality of the Panama Canal

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier met with Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino and expressed his intention to strengthen trade between the two countries, while also advocating for an end to the war against Iran.  German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier arrived in Panama on Monday, March 16, in what will be the first stop on a tour that will take him to Guatemala and Mexico with the aim of strengthening diplomatic and trade relations with countries in the region.  The German president was received at Tocumen International Airport, in the old terminal, by the Panamanian Foreign Minister, Javier Martínez-Acha. 

“The focus will be on strengthening relations with trading partners in the region, with whom we share values, as well as promoting democracy, the rule of law and discussion on global challenges,” according to the German head of state’s office.  The German head of state met with the President of the Republic, José Raúl Mulino, at the Palacio de las Garzas.  Frank-Walter Steinmeier, during his meeting with the Panamanian president, said that this was not his first time in the isthmus, as he had previously visited the country in 2007. 

“We want to strengthen our partnership,” said the German president.  He maintained that they are seeking partnerships with sovereign nations. “Latin America is nobody’s backyard; it is a vast region with its own history and independence. And Panama is an important economic and trade partner for us here in the region,” Frank-Walter Steinmeier stated.
