The Panama Ports Company Files a Complaint Regarding the Raid

The prosecution did not specify the alleged illegal act, although it was learned that the proceedings were initiated ex officio following information about an alleged concealment of documentation related to port operations.

The Panama Ports Company (PPC) accused the Panamanian State of occupying and seizing property, including “legally” protected information, after the Public Prosecutor’s Office carried out a search warrant on February 26 at offices occupied by the company in Albrook.  The raid occurred three days after the company was evicted from the ports of Balboa and Cristóbal, which it operated under concession for almost 30 years.

Azael Samaniego, prosecutor for the Primary Care Section of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, did not specify the alleged “illegal act” that prompted the investigation. However, it was learned that the action was initiated ex officio, following information indicating that the port authority was concealing documentation related to the Balboa and Cristóbal operations.
