Panama Ports Offices in Albrook were Raided for Concealing Documents
It was reported that a large number of boxes containing documents were removed from this office located in Albrook.
The offices that were used by Panama Ports Company (PPC) in a plaza in Albrook, in Panama City, were raided by the Public Ministry and the Directorate of Judicial Investigation (DIJ). The operation took place during daylight hours, and the area was cordoned off by National Police units. No one was allowed to enter or leave without authorization while the operation was underway. Unofficially, it was learned that the investigation was linked to a request for documents made by the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP).
This information was reportedly requested from the company that until recently held the concession for the ports of Cristóbal and Balboa. According to the information gathered, some of these documents were not fully provided. This situation reportedly prompted a complaint alleging the concealment of documents. Authorities are investigating whether formally requested information was withheld. The case remains under investigation, and no official conclusion has been reached. During the operation, at least three vehicles left loaded with boxes of documents, some with dates dating back to 2000, according to sources linked to the operation.
Trucks and a bus from the Panama Maritime Authority were also seen removing large quantities of material. Inside the offices, more boxes were still being moved by court officials. The operation is being led by the senior prosecutor for Primary Care, Azael Samaniego, who was seen supervising the proceedings. The National Police kept the perimeter closed while the investigation was underway. The investigation continues to determine if any crime was committed in connection with the missing documentation.
