Grab your Umbrella! A Cold Front is Approaching Bringing More Heavy Rain
Monitoring remains active to issue timely alerts and reduce risks.
Things aren’t improving. Panamanians have been experiencing torrential rains in recent days, and according to the Panama Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (IMHPA), what’s coming could be even worse. A new cold front is expected to arrive, which would generate significant rainfall in several regions of the country. Meteorologist Maria Cosme explained that the system would be entering or approaching tomorrow afternoon. It would be located over Costa Rica, the western Caribbean, and out into the Atlantic. This movement will cause more rain due to the wind, especially in specific areas of the territory. The areas with the highest probability of heavy downpours are the Caribbean slope, the highlands of Chiriquí, northern Coclé, Panama, Panama Oeste, parts of Darién, and the Emberá Wounaan region.

Significant impacts are also expected in Bocas del Toro, the Ngäbe-Buglé region, and northern Veraguas. In these regions, the skies will be relentless. There’s another worrying detail. The ground is already saturated from previous rains. This increases the risk of landslides and flooded streets in vulnerable areas. Authorities urge everyone to stay tuned to official announcements and not let their guard down. The National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) reiterated that the public should follow official accounts to stay informed about the system’s deployment. In case of emergency, the phone lines 520-4429 and 911 are available. The recommendation is to secure loose objects, avoid areas prone to slipping, and drive carefully due to low visibility. This phenomenon is part of the seasonal weather patterns that affect the western Caribbean. Monitoring remains active to issue timely alerts and reduce risks.
