The event will take place on the straightaway of the Colón Free Zone, encompassing the section from 13th Street on Central Avenue to Gate 4 of the free zone perimeter. Mayor Galván pictured below announced the authorization of 30 special permits for local entrepreneurs.
Amid conflicting reports that generated uncertainty in the community, the president of the Colón carnivals, Roberto Edwards, together with the district mayor, Diógenes Lorenzo Galván, came forward to clear up doubts and confirm the holding of the traditional “Domingo Carnavalito”. The carnival tradition will take place as planned, on Sunday, February 22nd. After days of speculation about logistics and permits, both agreed to clarify what they described as a “confusing situation” and reaffirmed their commitment to one of Colonense’s most emblematic celebrations. The event will take place on the straightaway of the Colón Free Zone, encompassing the section from 13th Street on Central Avenue to Gate 4 of the free zone perimeter.
Mayor Galván announced the authorization of 30 special permits for local entrepreneurs, allowing them to offer and sell their products during the festive day. In a gesture highlighted by the organizers, the mayor also made a personal contribution of $3,000 to cover part of the event’s operating expenses, thus ensuring that the popular festival has the necessary support. “This is a shared effort to keep our roots alive. We want families in Colón to enjoy themselves peacefully and for our entrepreneurs to have an opportunity to generate income during these days of celebration,” said Mayor Galván during the joint announcement.
Roberto Edwards, for his part, expressed his gratitude for the support provided, which he described as essential for covering last-minute details. With the uncertainty resolved, Edwards extended an open invitation to all citizens to be part of this tradition that marks the prelude to the carnival festivities in the province. “I’m calling on all the residents of Colón and our visitors to join us this Sunday. Let’s show that Colón is still the carnival capital. Come with your family and friends to experience the joy of our ‘Little Carnival Sunday’ responsibly and with lots of flavor,” Edwards concluded.
