River Overflow Affects Homes in Bocas Del Toro

The rains recorded in the last few days have caused the overflow of the Sixaola River in the sector of La Mesa, border area of the province of Bocas del Toro, generating floors in several residences and problems in agricultural areas.

Local producers have reported losses in crops and animals, which directly impacts the economy of families that depend on agricultural activity. SINAPROC staff conducted inspections in the affected sectors to assess damage and guide residents on preventative measures.

Authorities maintain constant monitoring of the possibility of further rainfall during the week, and called on those living in vulnerable areas to move to safety.

Traffic on the road that connects Chiriqui with Bocas del Toro continues to be enabled, but under risk conditions in the Hornito secor, specificially in the stretch known as La Quijada del Diablo.

According to SINAPROC, steady rains have saturated the ground, increasing the likelihood of landslides and rock falls in this hilly area. The Ministry of Public Works keeps heavy machinery and technical staff in the area carrying out monitoring and material removal work.

Authorities recommend reducing speed, driving with maximum cauthion, and respecting installed signage while field assessments continue.

This is one the busiest routes between the two provinces, so drivers are urged to keep informed through official channels. https://www.sinaproc.gob.pa/contactos-de-coordinadores-provinciales-regionales-y-voluntariado/
