Authorities Search for Missing Person: 4th Drowning Victim in Veraguas after Heavy Rains

Veraguas: Authorities report one person missing. The northern part of Veraguas province is facing a worrying situation due to heavy rains that have caused rivers to swell and created dangerous conditions for the population. This Monday, the fourth drowning death of 2026 was reported in the province.  The heavy rains have also left a family stranded in the community of Los Hatillos, in the district of San Francisco. Emergency personnel had to wait for the river levels to recede before they could safely evacuate the family, according to local authorities.

Yackzabeth Jiménez, regional director of the National Civil Protection System in Veraguas, called on the population to follow prevention recommendations and avoid sailing between communities.  “The weather in the northern part of Veraguas is not suitable for traveling from one community to another. We urge people not to enter the rivers, as flash floods can occur that put lives at risk”.   The search continues for an elderly man, presumed to have Alzheimer’s disease, who may be disoriented.  Authorities are requesting assistance in locating him and ensuring his safety.  Authorities are maintaining a prevention alert in the Central mountain range while the rains persist, urging the population to take extreme precautions.
