Heavy Rains in Coclé are Affecting the Drinking Water Supply and Small Onion Producers

The rains in Coclé have communities and authorities on alert, who are calling on the population to take extreme precautions and stay informed about the evolution of river levels.

Natá, Coclé: The intense rains that have been recorded in the province of Coclé have caused the main rivers of the region to rise, affecting the supply of drinking water and generating losses in local agricultural production.  The Grande, Zaratí, Coclé del Sur, and Perecabé rivers, in the district of La Pintada and surrounding areas, have experienced significant rises in their water levels, impacting the operation of the Penonomé water treatment plants, which supply water to more than 9,000 users. The temporary suspension of these operations has also left residents of the La Pintada district without water service.

Authorities expect the water supply to be restored in the next few hours, once the levels of sediment carried by the rivers due to the heavy rainfall decrease.  More than 15 small-scale farmers located near El Caño de Nata, close to the Archaeological Museum, have seen their crops affected by the flooding of the Grande River. The farmers expressed their concern about the loss of their produce and requested support from local authorities to mitigate the damage.  The rains in Coclé have communities and authorities on alert, who are calling on the population to take extreme precautions and stay informed about the evolution of river levels.
