Youth Baseball: Chiriquí Halts Panama West’s Undefeated Streak in David

Chiriquí rallied at home, defeating Panamá West 4-3 and ending their perfect streak at the start of the second round of youth baseball.

The Chiriquí team took advantage of playing at home and the support of their fans to avenge their narrow defeat on Wednesday, securing an immediate 4-3 victory over Panamá West. The game was played at Kenny Serracín Stadium in David, as part of the opening round of the National Youth Baseball Championship.  As has become customary in these first weeks of January, the Panama West Cowboys struck first and early.

After the first six batters were retired without incident, Jean Rodriguez hit a home run to left field to open the scoring for the visiting team.  Chiriquí tried to respond immediately with a single by Abdiel Hernández and a walk to Julio Avendaño, but West’s defense managed to stifle the threat. In the top of the third, the Vaqueros reached base again with two walks, but once more the attempt did not help the cause.
