The West Panama Beaches and Rivers are being Secured to Prevent the Entry of Weapons and Drugs

Checkpoints are set up to ensure that bathers can enjoy their walks safely. Operations in Chame and San Carlos will continue throughout the summer, the National Police reported.

Units of the National Police carried out a large security operation this weekend at different beaches and rivers in the districts of Chame and San Carlos, to guarantee the well-being of families enjoying recreational activities at these resorts.  The deputy commissioner in charge of the police zone of Chame and San Carlos, José Córdoba, reported that within the framework of Operation Odysseus, operations are being carried out to ensure safe beaches for bus tours, since they have to comply with the mayor’s permits and off-route regulations, and also have a suitable lifeguard.

The commissioner added that they are conducting checkpoints and patrols on the beaches to locate individuals wanted by authorities and prevent the entry of illicit substances and weapons. These operations will continue throughout the summer.  During the tour, the agents verified that the family outings complied with the established safety measures, including the use of life jackets and corresponding permits to carry out aquatic activities.  Citizens required by the authorities were also checked, as part of the preventive strategies implemented to maintain order and security in these tourist areas.  Authorities called on the public to respect the rules, use the necessary safety equipment, and cooperate with police units to prevent incidents.
