More than 9,123 people in communities in the districts of La Pintada, Omar Torrijos and Donoso have benefited since March 2025 from the generation of local employment and community donations made by the Community Affairs team of Cobre Panamá.  According to the information provided, 166 people from the communities participated in community projects implemented in partnership with local councils, through community contractors who employed staff exclusively from the communities themselves. This model allowed resources and job opportunities to remain in the area.

Of the total number of people hired, 150 participated in priority projects, 80 in cleaning green areas and 70 in road improvements, while the rest worked on other community infrastructure projects such as solar panels, maintenance of aqueducts and filtration systems, river transport, remodeling of guest houses and logistical support, generating temporary employment with weekly pay.    In addition, the free community transportation program was strengthened, benefiting the neighboring communities of Río Caimito, Nueva Lucha, Nueva Esperanza, Nuevo Edén and Nuevo Sinaí, facilitating access to health services, education and other community activities.

“I want to thank everyone for the support they have given us. The boost Cobre Panamá gave us was very important, and we are extremely grateful. Thanks to these projects, our community can continue to move forward and think about a better future,” said Eny Anibal Cruz from the community of Santa María de Belén, Colón.  The program also provided free transportation to students, facilitating the return of high school students from the IPT of Coclesito on weekends and the transfer of technical students from Nuevo Sinaí to the Chapala training center in Panama City.  During 2025, the community transportation service recorded 1,605 donated trips, covering more than 100,000 kilometers and transporting 40,125 people.

The service operates an average of 30 trips per week (1,440 per year), with an estimated impact of more than 36,000 trips, while the remaining transportation donations were allocated to sports and cultural activities.  Additionally, the projects developed benefited 612 people through support in the form of uniforms and sports equipment, and 212 people through socioeconomic support programs, such as training for producers and inputs for agricultural projects.  These actions were carried out in coordination with municipalities, local boards, community leaders and authorities, as part of the work of the Cobre Panamá Community Affairs team, focused on generating employment opportunities and improving the quality of life in neighboring communities.
