An Airplane Crashed on the Amador Causeway En Route to the Marcos A. Gelabert Airport

Two people suffered minor injuries after the small plane with registration HP-33, in which they were flying, crashed Thursday morning on the Amador Causeway, affecting vehicular traffic in the area.  Videos circulated on social media showing the aircraft blocking the road towards Flamenco Island; debris from the aircraft could also be seen on the street.  According to preliminary information, the small plane was returning to Marcos A. Gelabert Airport and experienced mechanical failures, forcing it to make a forced landing on the road.  Members of the Fire Department arrived at the site to provide the necessary assistance and clean up the fuel spill.

“After receiving the alert, the Civil Aeronautics Authority (AAC) units immediately activated emergency protocols and coordinated the response to the incident with security and emergency services. Currently, technical verification and preliminary information gathering are underway,”  the Civil Aeronautics Authority said in a statement.  They added that they will begin the corresponding investigations to determine the causes of the accident.
