Nataly Delgado Retains Her Interim World Title; Maximiliano Bonilla Remains Undefeated 9-0 (9KO)

Nataly Delgado, the 31-year-old champion from Veraguas and originally from Los Algarrobos in Santiago, retained her interim World Boxing Association (WBA) super flyweight title by defeating Mexican Arlenn “La Torita” Sánchez by unanimous decision during the Boxing Challenge Championship Night card, held Saturday night at the Villa Magna hall in the city of Santiago. 

The fight, scheduled for 10 rounds, held the public’s attention from the beginning to the last bell, where Delgado managed to impose her rhythm, technique and forcefulness to convince the judges and remain as world champion, thus reaffirming her position in the elite of Panamanian women’s boxing.  The judges gave a wide victory to Nataly Delgado on the scorecards (99-90, 98-91 and 99-90).  The Panamanian champion is left with a record of 19-7-2 (5KO), while the Mexican is left with a record of (8-8-4, 1 KO). 

Victories and Knockouts Marked the Rest of the Evening

The day also featured great displays of talent, especially from Veraguas boxers who gave us plenty to talk about:  Maximiliano Bonilla, another emerging talent from Veraguas, showed determination and power by defeating Colombian Jhoynnier Cervera by technical knockout, just 5 seconds into the sixth round, in a fight scheduled for 8. 

In the 115 pound division, Leroy Estrada from La Chorrera defeated Ronal “Gallito” Batista from Veraguas by technical knockout in the sixth round of a fight also scheduled for 8 rounds.  Adrián Morales from La Chorrera achieved a quick victory by technical knockout against Roy from Veraguas.  Hernandez, 11 seconds into the second round, in a fight scheduled for 4 rounds at 135 pounds.  Bienvenido Rodríguez, from Santa Fe, Veraguas, managed to win by technical knockout against Jafet Araúz from La Chorrera at 59 seconds of the fourth round, in a fight scheduled for 4 rounds at 135 pounds.  The young boxer Iker Canto, from the district of Cañazas, technically knocked out Víctor Rodríguez, from La Chorrera, at minute five of the first round, in a fight scheduled for 4 rounds.  Finally, Abdiel González, from Chitra, Calobre, started the card strong by knocking out Marcos Reyna from La Chorrera 36 seconds into the first round.

A Vibrant Night for Boxing in Veraguas

The event, organized by the Santiago City Hall, under the direction of Mayor Erick Jaén, and supervised by the WBA, brought together hundreds of fans who enthusiastically celebrated each round and each victory.  The evening showcased Panamanian boxing, especially that of Veraguas, with dynamic fights, great displays of talent, and another successful defense of the world title by Nataly Delgado, who continues to consolidate her sporting legacy.
