Panama DGI Distributes $110,000 in Prizes in the Second Draw of the Fiscal Lottery

More than one million envelopes participated in the event that seeks to reward consumers who demand their receipt and strengthen tax culture.

The General Directorate of Revenue (DGI) of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) held the second Fiscal Lottery draw this Thursday, October 30 , distributing $110,000 in prizes among taxpayers throughout the country who participated by depositing their invoices in the mailboxes enabled nationwide.  The public response exceeded all expectations, with more than one million envelopes received.   Due to the volume of participation, the organizers allowed adults to assist the children in stirring the envelopes inside the pool where the drawing took place.  The initiative aims to promote tax awareness and combat tax evasion by rewarding consumers who request receipts when purchasing goods or services. This year, 25 prizes were awarded, distributed as follows:

  • 5 prizes of $10,000
  • 10 prizes of $5,000
  • 10 prizes of $1,000

The process was overseen by a notary to ensure transparency. During the drawing, some envelopes were discarded for not meeting the established requirements, and new draws were held to maintain the total number of winners.  Most of the award winners were women , with winners coming from different provinces: Veraguas (4), Coclé (2), Panama (16) and Panama West (3).  With this program, the DGI reaffirms its commitment to encouraging tax compliance, rewarding citizens’ efforts to demand invoices and contribute to the country’s development.
