Residents of Costa Rica were alarmed after a powerful earthquake of 6.2 magnitude, according to the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICRI), hit the country this Tuesday at 9:57 PM. According to the report, the earthquake was located 25.7 km southwest of Espaldilla Sur, in Quepos, Puntarenas.
Although the epicenter was located in the ocean, it was reportedly felt across much of the country and in the Greater Metropolitan Area (GMA). The earthquake was reported to be felt in Puntarenas, Heredia, Alajuela, Cartago, San José, in the southern part of the country, in the southern Caribbean, and in Tilarán. It was generally felt in all of the country’s provinces. It was also felt in Panama, with no casualties or material damage reported so far. So far, at least three aftershocks of lesser intensity have been recorded.
