This Sunday Oct 5th, heavy rainfall caused damage and flooding in Boquete, Palmira and Volcan in the province of Chiriqui. Damages included trees falling, landslides, and partial collapse of roads in several areas. The Caldera River was cresting but did not overflow. Authorities called for calm and asked the population to avoid flooded and damaged areas. As a precaution for safety reasons, school classes have been suspended for Oct 6th in Boquete, and the Cerro Punta area of Volcan (Tierras Altas).


2 Families in Boquete Housing with 11 Persons Affected by the Rain
Authorities do not rule out the possibility that the number could increase if the weather conditions persist. Government Minister Dinoska Montalvo confirms that 11 people were affected by the rains in the district of Boquete, Chiriquí. This represents two families whose homes were damaged. In response to the situation, the Ministry of Education announced the suspension of classes this Monday, October 6, at schools in Boquete and Cerro Punta as a preventive measure.
Authorities do not rule out the possibility that the number could increase tomorrow if the weather conditions persist. The minister explained that the Caldera River has not overflowed its banks, and that the images circulating on social media correspond to adjacent streams , so the cause could be related to nearby construction. Because the soil is extremely saturated, heavy machinery will not be allowed to enter the area until tomorrow to prevent accidents. In other provinces, Veraguas reported some minor flooding without major consequences, while in Bocas del Toro a tree fell due to the rains. Meanwhile, Cerro Punta, Volcán, and Barú have not reported any incidents so far.
