Searching for Drugs in Panama; Fake Police Officers Shoot at Truck

Criminals were searching for drugs that were supposedly being transported in the truck. The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. this Wednesday, as the truck was traveling on the Inter-American Highway, near the bridge over the Fonseca River in the district of San Lorenzo.

Panama: What seemed like a routine trip turned into a nightmare for the driver of a truck transporting a container of merchandise from the province of Panama to Chiriquí.  The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. this Wednesday, as the truck was traveling on the Inter-American Highway, near the bridge over the Fonseca River in the district of San Lorenzo. It was then intercepted by a pickup truck and a van.  A hooded man dressed as a fake police officer got out of each vehicle and began shooting at the truck.

They then forced the driver out of the cab, held him at gunpoint, and took him to the back of the truck to open the container door.  Unofficially, it was learned that the gunmen asked, “Where are the drugs?”, but the truck driver didn’t know what they were referring to.  Fortunately, several National Police units that were patrolling the area at the time heard the explosions and arrived at the scene of what is being investigated as a failed drug robbery within minutes.  Upon seeing the real uniformed officers, the fake police officers fled into a nearby pasture, managing to escape.
