Panama – The former representative and treasurer of the Communal Health Board (Chagres district, Colón province) were arrested this Monday, as they are being investigated for various forms of embezzlement related to the misuse of public funds from the Social Inclusion Program (PDIS), corresponding to the 2019-2024 period.   Personnel from the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, with support from the National Directorate of Police Intelligence (DNIP) and the National Aeronaval Service (SENAN), made the arrests.

This comes after an audit report prepared by the Comptroller General’s Office determined irregularities in the use of funds transferred to this Communal Board, which caused a financial loss to the State in the amount of  $1,421,627.64.   During the search and seizure proceedings, the Prosecutor’s Office was able to uncover several clues related to the ongoing investigations.  These individuals will be brought before a Judge of Guarantees, who will be responsible for declaring the arrest legal, submitting the charges, and establishing the precautionary measure they must comply with during the six months given to the Prosecutor’s Office to investigate the case.
