Panama’s Film Fashion and Music Show: A Grand Cultural Gala!

The event took place at the Latin American Parliament (Parlatino) in front of an audience that applauded the originality, talent, and artistic commitment of the students and collaborators.

The Faculty of Social Communication, as part of the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the University of Panama, successfully presented the Film, Fashion & Music Show, a cultural and academic gala that brought together three fundamental artistic expressions on a single stage: film, fashion, and music.  The event took place at the Latin American Parliament (Parlatino) in front of an audience that applauded the originality, talent, and artistic commitment of the students and collaborators. With an impeccable academic production, the Film, Fashion & Music Show was conceived as a space for integrating creativity and university education, where students from Radio, Film, and Television Production; Journalism; Advertising; Public Relations; and Events and Protocol demonstrated their ability to put together a highly technical and artistic show.

This event, which fused lights, live music and fashion, featured the participation of guest dancers, emerging models and talents from the Faculty, and the designers of the Fashion School of the Faculty of Architecture Iris Avendaño, Emily Aizpurua and Darlenys del Rio who presented their collections Cactus Resort, Knossos and Terracalmas to an international audience as a preamble to the Latin American Gala 2025, who came together to create a unique visual and sound experience. Live music of film themes by Master pianist David Quintero Valdivieso masterfully accompanied each catwalk and presentation, providing an elegant and cinematic atmosphere that enveloped the audience.  The University of Panama Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Magister Renzo Sánchez, stood out with a masterful presentation that delighted each and every one of the attendees.

Their repertoire alluded to three themes, two from films and one from a television series: Star Wars, Game of Thrones, and Pirates of the Caribbean.   One of the most memorable moments of the evening was the presentation of the special segment by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Panama, the event’s official sponsor. This cultural block highlighted the richness and refinement of traditional Moroccan caftans, worn by students from the Faculty of Social Communication, alongside Ana Paula, pictured above, the 2024 Queen of the Latin American Gala. The dresses, steeped in history and symbolism, reflected the delicacy of Moroccan textile art and strengthened the bonds of friendship and cultural cooperation.

During her speech, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco, HE Bouchra Boudchiche, pictured above, expressed her satisfaction at being part of an initiative that unites three artistic disciplines on a single academic and diplomatic level. In her message, she emphasized the importance of cultural exchange as a tool for understanding between nations and congratulated the School of Social Communication, Professor Danilo Ovalle, Communicator Jose Luis Agrazal, and all the students for promoting these types of encounters that transcend the boundaries of knowledge.   The audience also enjoyed musical performances by artists, including Verano, a leading exponent of alternative techno-pop, whose participation added a contemporary and vibrant touch to the evening.

The show demonstrated how music, fashion, and audiovisual media can coexist in perfect harmony, generating multisensory experiences that inspire and educate.   The Film, Fashion & Music Show was not only a display of artistic talent, but also a demonstration of teamwork, planning, production, and university passion. The students applied their knowledge of communication, design, protocol, and cultural management, demonstrating the comprehensive education promoted by the School of Social Communication.  We also received valuable support from Viera Productions, Verano Records, and other institutional and private partners who joined this great initiative.

Their support was instrumental in achieving a first-class performance, worthy of a university that continues to set the standard in the country’s cultural and artistic development. With this gala, the University of Panama highlighted its commitment to humanistic education, creative innovation, and strengthening the link between academia, culture, and diplomacy, consolidating the Film, Fashion & Music Show as a platform that celebrates the talent, diversity, and artistic excellence of its students. They set a precedent for future productions , directed by the Faculty of Social Communication under its dean, Magister Edgardo Murgas Álvarez.
