A wide repertoire of Hispanic singers walked the blue carpet at the Premios Juventud, held last night for the first time in Panama, wearing sequined outfits and indigenous designs.  “How wonderful that the awards are being held right now here in Panama.  I think it’s a very beautiful way to showcase the beauty of all of Latin America.   For me it’s been a wonderful month and I celebrated 21 years of freedom on September 21st and right now I’m here at Premios Juventud,” said Mexican singer Gloria Trevi, one of the musical stars who was present at the Figali Convention Center, on the Amador Causeway.

Along the red carpet at these awards, Latin and Spanish artists posed for the cameras in their striking outfits, many of them made by local and indigenous designers using colorful “molas,” the traditional textile of the Guna ethnic group (Caribbean).  Thus, the various musicians recognized Panama’s contribution and “mark” on Latin American music, both in the club and in reggaeton.  “Panama has shaped generations with its music. For example in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, it has been a huge influence, and to be given the opportunity to be here, to sing on their stage, in their country, is a tremendous privilege,” Natti Natasha, who sang with Panamanian singer Nando Boom, told reporters.  Puerto Rican reggaeton artist Wisin also emphasized: “Panama has given us so much. I think we owe so much to the urban genre, to all of Panama’s older exponents.”
