Rainfall of up to 100 mm Forecast for Panama:  Storms on the Way

Influence of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and low pressure systems, which generates an unstable atmosphere.

The National Civil Protection System (SINAPROC) reported that a warning for significant rain and storms remains in effect for much of the country from September 4 to 6, 2025. The alert is based on forecasts from the Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama (IMHPA).

Areas Under Surveillance:

Bocas del Toro, Ngäbe-Buglé, Chiriquí, Veraguas, Herrera, Los Santos, Coclé, Colón, West Panama, Panama, Darién, Emberá-Wounaan and Guna Yala.

Expected conditions:

Influence of the Inter-tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and low pressure systems, generating an unstable atmosphere.

– Daily rainfall between 50 and 100 mm in the provinces under warning, especially on the 5th and 6th.

-Rainfall between 20 and 60 mm in the rest of the country.

Possible thunderstorms and wind gusts.

Risk of flooding of rivers, streams and landslides in vulnerable areas.

Recommendations to the population:

Stay tuned for official announcements from SINAPROC and IMHPA.

Do not cross rivers, ravines, or flooded streets. Students in remote areas should avoid running water.

Secure roofs, drains, and structures exposed to wind.

Drive with caution due to possible low visibility.
