As part of his official visit to Japan, President José Raúl Mulino led a forum attended by more than 30 Japanese companies. Panamanian officials were also present. During this meeting, the head of state made a significant announcement: the beginning of the design and construction process for a gas pipeline through the Panama Canal, one of the most important infrastructures along this interoceanic waterway.
“The gas pipeline we are announcing today is a strategic decision for Panama, designed to maintain our country’s position as an essential player in the global economy, promoting development for Panamanians, and ensuring the sustainability and competitiveness of the Panama Canal,” Mulino stated.
The president added that this initiative will create more than 6,500 jobs during the construction phase and approximately 9,600 jobs during the operational phase. It will be one of the most significant investments in the history of this interoceanic route, with a beneficial impact on the country. The prequalification process for interested parties will begin this year, while the final stage of dealer selection is expected to conclude in the fourth quarter of 2026.
